Couples | Beyond the Pines of Burr Oak Woods
This was my first session to ever get rained out while in progress. It was a very misty morning at Burr Oak Woods. Although my clients and I created many dreamy shots within that famous line of pines, for the sake of this post I wanted to showcase some less coveted details of the small patch of woods. Moss covered branches, tiny red berries, and a high canopy shielding us from the rain are what really captured the essence of this intimate shoot.
We also took a short drive to a nearby town for some variety. Sticking with Burr Oaks as my initial inspiration I attempted to find textures and colors that related to the original location. Scouting for this shoot was tricky since I had never been to the location before and could only use Google Earth. I wanted to find spots that would allow me to reduce or abstract the idea of a forest passage. I was quite pleased with my discoveries of a black plywood wall and the colorful concrete siding of a local theater.
Finally, we decided to cut our losses after about 20 minutes at the second location, but not before attempting to shoot in consistent rainfall. Cold and damp we retreated to the warmth of our vehicles, but regardless, it was an adventure worth having.
