Couples | A Subtly Mid Century, Minimalist Engagement

I’m not a studio photographer. I like a lot a of space, find lack of control of light and environment challenging and enticing, and really like to wander. However, when Anna and Mike requested we have their engagement session indoor- which I didn’t blame them, it was one of the hottest weeks of the year- I was simply out of interior spots that I hadn’t shot in a zillion times before. They wanted a nostalgic, mid century look. While I would’ve loved to have found a moody ranch style, complete with paneled walls and orange counter tops I simply did not have one at my disposal. Instead, I did something very out of character, and booked Crossroads Studio for the occasion.

The simple, clean space worked perfectly for the subtle vintage look, making the overall setting take a backseat and bringing forth my use of prisms, light flairs, grainy overlays, and of course, the couple’s love and affection. Anna and Mike’s classic style matched the space and mood of the shoot perfectly. I was so happy with how willing to play around these two were, and we finished in record time. I’m so excited for their wedding next June, and to get the opportunity to work with these two once more.
