Wedding | A Dreamy, Documentary-Style Wedding Day.

Anne & Brayden’s wedding at UNION was one of my favorite 2024 fall weddings! The couple themselves were an absolute dream to photograph; they were fun, friendly, and were effortless behind the camera. All the details of their day were absolutely stunning, from the beauitful flatlay items, to the greenery heavy look of their ceremony, I would’ve probably showcased this wedding regardless, but it similtanously serves as a small champion in my portfolio for my photography approach alone. This entire day, excluding formal portraits and a few bridal party shots, was shot exclusively through observation.

Over the course of the last year or so, I’ve been adapting my style back to a more documentary based way of working. My roots are in documentary photography, and my first weddings were shot almost entirely candidly. over time I developed a more editorial approach. However After awhile I realized I was becoming overly reliant upon posing my clients. As trends have changed and weddings have become more complex, having to pose every aspect of a day becomes more difficult. I’ve leaned back into a documentary forward style for weddings to make things easier on my clients and their guests, as I politely remind myself to “shut up and observe.”

While I will always consider myself a hybird editorial-documentary photographer, I think Anne & brayden’s day is a great example of what a documenary forward approach realistically looks like. Not posed, but composition reliant; effortless, yet elegant and chic all the same.
