Inspiration | The Elegance of Spring

A recent Spring editorial wedding shoot coordinated by my girl, Ashley Ice. I almost didn’t attend this shoot, but I’m so glad I ended up making the time. This might be her most beautiful shoot to date.

Wedding | A Winter Wedding and Rocking Reception

Alisa and Andy were such a pleasure to work with from the first time I met them at a little coffee shop over a year ago, to the hugs we exchanged as I departed their wedding. They were so much fun and great to get to know! I loved their unexpected interest in minimal industrial spaces, and no I don’t mean picturesque urban backdrops interspersed throughout work sites and train tracks and dilapidated buildings; I mean literal plants and machinery, blank walls and parking lots. I shot their engagement session inside The Roasterie plant last year, and their bride and groom portraits over looking the Boulevard Brewing plant and outside at night in the parking lot. I loved how each shoot really lent a hand to the other.

The entire wedding day start to end was incredibly elegant and well executed, as was to be expected; they had an insane team of vendors on board to bring this day to life and boy, did they. They also choose two of the most beautiful spots to celebrate, their own church (which, I mean, look at it.) and Boulevard Brewing Co.’s event space which was beautiful and provided an absolute epic few of the city at night. It was the perfect blend of traditional and modern. They also hired a live cover band and apparently have great taste in music. At first I thought the band just had a thing for 70s and 80s classics (intermixed with a few modern gems) but then at the end of the night I overheard the band thanking the couple for picking such a unique set for them to play. My one regret is not getting one of their favors. They had one of the engagement photos I took vectorized and engraved onto the side of beer glasses. (Pictures below.) It was maybe my favorite favor I’ve ever seen.

Wedding | An Old-World Wedding with Homespun Elegance

Rebekkah & Grabriel’s wedding day was filled with so many beautiful moments; from the glowing light that poured through the windows of the little country church, to the live music that echoed throughout the courtyard of their reception venue. This wedding was filled with a nostalgic charm of eras past.

Inspired by the simplicity of their grandparent’s weddings they wished to capture a “homespun elegance” when planning their day. (Their words not mine.) The ceremony, portrait and reception locations were all historic and scattered throughout rural Missouri and into an old downtown of a close community. The couple opted for home made pies over wedding cake, which their parents served to them upon their arrival to the reception. They also arranged for one of the most beautiful grand exits I’ve witnessed. That you can see for yourself below.

The entire day felt like a Grandma Moses painting; a simple scene set within idyllic countryside and quaint small towns, but at closer examination a intricate orchestration of historical and personal relevance. Much like their whimsical and poetic personalities, this wedding shown with an individual charm unlike any I’ve experienced.

Wedding | Timelessness, Tradition, and Twinkle Lights

Celia and Chris’s traditional Catholic Mass and rustic Edison bulb filled reception was truly something to behold. They were seriously one of the sweetest couples I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. Plus, these guys could dance, like seriously dance. They put even my best attempt at a Waltz to shame.

The entire day had a timelessness about it; as if the whole world was moving around us, but we were in a time space of our own. Maybe it was the couple’s classic beauty, the witnessing of traditions that are not my own, or maybe it was just because the reception venue lacked natural light. Whatever it was, I’m so pleased I was there to capture it all. The ceremony was beautiful and moving. (Although both my second and I were a bit thrown off by the omission of the kiss.) The reception was quaint and warm. I even got to go back to Ted Ensley Gardens with these two, which is quickly becoming my absolutely favorite place to shoot. Also, did I mention they honeymooned in Tuscany? Cause they honeymooned in Tuscany. *long envious exhale*

Wedding | A Candlelit Church Wedding with Woodland Vibes

I met John and Sarah  when John reached out to me about photographing their wedding and engagement. Both engagement session and wedding day occurred within pretty close proximity. By the time their wedding rolled around we felt like old friends. A week prior to the wedding they added an extra hour so I could capture a few minutes of getting ready and a rather elaborate first look. This blog post is definitely first look heavy because A) I'm so busy and uploading images takes time, and B) the images we got were SO stunning. This is first look goals, you guys. This is what you want; a pretty patio, gorgeous natural backdrops, moody overcast, and a real nice rental car.  Also that bouquet tho.
