The Tea Party Styled Shoot might be my favorite of Ashley’s styled-shoots to date. I’ve always had a love of vintage and tea rooms. Both have a strong connection to my childhood, and so when this shoot came to be I jumped at the opportunity to participate. I might have bit off a little more than I could chew since this shoot took place during my busiest month of the year. I felt slightly indifferent going through the motions the day of. The thing about styled shoots though, especially those planned by someone else, is that they take you out of your comfort zone and you have to pay attention.
Being primarily shabby chic this particular location is a light and airy dreamscape. However, I’m not a light-airy photographer, or person for that matter. I scoff at antiqued furniture, chalk paint, and have the attention span of a gnat when it comes to diy projects. I watch shows about modernist architecture, and enjoy the sparseness of minimalist rooms. That all being said, there’s something utterly inviting about this space. I found myself naturally drawn to the dim lit rooms, patchwork quilts, and soft translucent curtains. It felt very familiar, like a hug from my grandmother; it created a distinct nostalgic response that I aimed to capture. I wanted my images to transcend the professionally decorated cottage decor and focus on the home, and rural warmth. But all that aside, I am HERE for Thirty One; Thirty’s designs! She nails it every time. Look at the cake table!
