Wedding | A Step Back in Time at Hotel Kansas City

I had been looking forward to Shannon & Davin’s wedding day for nearly a year, when eleven months prior I traveled to Badlands National Park to capture their engagement session at the very end of their yearly twenty-three mile hiking trip. Avid explorers, historic home owners (in the Historic Northeast, no less), and fellow lovers of the dark and moody, they were a couple that was a perfect fit for my work, not only in style but in personality. A couple weeks after their wedding, I.E Design House shared their initial message when they had reached out to them about designing their day. It read:

Our personalities are off the beaten path and you won't usually find us doing what everyone else does. We love unique things and experiences and that's what we envision for our wedding. We're looking for help designing and pulling off a celebration that is the perfect balance of sentimental and weird; an evening that takes guests back in time for an old-school, roaring 20's-esqe party while providing modern conveniences.

I thought this was a lovely way of describing not only themselves, but the day as it came together. Their wedding day felt utterly timeless as it occurred throughout the historic halls of Hotel Kansas City. Filled with thoughtful surprises throughout; a champagne wall, a visit from KC Wolf. Guests were treated more as though they were attending a gala or dinner party in lieu of traditional wedding happenings. It was a thrill to attend and an honor to capture.
