Wedding | An Intimate Vintage Micro Wedding at Hotel Phillips
I could probably talk forever about how cool Brandi & Dan are as a couple, and when they approached me about their wedding I knew we would be a perfect fit. During our initial call they expressed some apprehension, and rather than saying the age old “we’re awkward in front of the camera,” they said they didn’t feel as though they looked like my photos even though they loved their style. This struck me because I too don’t feel like I look like my photos. My photos are far cooler than I’ll ever be. If I’ve learned one thing about photographing people, it’s that those that are self aware enough to feel awkward will be great. I’m awkward. Awkward works in my favor. I was further convinced by how awesome these two were when visiting their beautifully curated apartment, which featured a gorgeous plant filled sun room, vintage movie posters, and a merry mushroom cannister collection. (If you know, YOU KNOW.) Even if they felt awkward for a moment, they obviously had great taste and a clear well executed vision of their wedding day that would coincide perfectly with my moody, vintage inspired style.
Brandi & Dan wanted a small, elegant, and cozy wedding and enlisted a top tier team of vendors to execute the vision. I got to work with one of my favorite florists, Thorne Floral, as well as get to know Bespoke Socials who designed the entire day start to finish. They also selected one of, if not the most, beautiful ballrooms in Kansas City for their ceremony and reception; the Crystal Ballroom at Hotel Phillips. Although Hotel Phillips is known primarily for it’s art deco design, the Crystal Ballroom holds an old world charm that feels a bit more European than Gatsby. Surrounded by candles, beautifully curated florals, and their closest family and friends these two tied the knot in one of the loveliest of weddings I’ve had the pleasurer of photographing.
